Web design Derby businesses can plan around real users
Start with the people who will use the site and the decisions they need to make. An engineering supplier may need capability pages, technical documents and a clear route for procurement enquiries. A hypothetical supplier near Infinity Park could group pages by buyer needs. It could make procurement contacts easy to find. Derby City Council places Infinity Park beside Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace headquarters. These examples describe hypothetical projects. Derby City Council: Infinity Park
Alstom describes its Litchurch Lane site as its largest global facility. A hypothetical supplier serving rail work there might organise its site around relevant capabilities, technical documents and procurement enquiries. The page structure would depend on what the supplier actually offers. A trades business may need service details and an enquiry form. An online shop needs a plan for its catalogue, checkout, delivery and order handling. Alstom: Derby facility
Derby City Council reports that manufacturing accounted for an estimated 15.9% of Derby City employee jobs in 2024. The estimate uses the ONS Business Register and Employment Survey. Rolls-Royce identifies Derby as the home of its Civil Aerospace headquarters. The supplied client evidence contains no Derby manufacturing case. A Bristol website build by Aristral
Aristral says it shares named client examples with permission. It built a replacement website for Skin and Beauty Box, a Bristol business with three clinics. The build began in July 2026 and used Next.js and React. The live site is a public project artifact. It shows separate pages for each clinic, plus treatment and booking pages. The site also has a blog, privacy and terms pages, an XML sitemap and a robots file. Deployment runs through an automated GitHub Actions pipeline. Aristral's project records document these pages and deployment tasks. View the Skin and Beauty Box website · Read Aristral's client summary
Aristral's client page reports top-five positions for Skin and Beauty Box on core salon searches in Bristol. The result is undated and self-reported. It describes search visibility, not website performance, and does not predict a Derby result.
Aristral has also built software products. Health Flow turns patient calls, e-faxes and emails into referral records. It sends low-confidence items to a person and keeps an audit trail. Lodgers Engine is an AI hotel property management system for multi-property groups. It has 12 modules. POS Engine is a point-of-sale system for UK hospitality. It includes VAT and Making Tax Digital exports. These products document Aristral's software work across healthcare, hotel operations and UK hospitality.
Review the design before the build
The Skin and Beauty Box project record covers the pages built, sitemap, robots file and deployment through GitHub Actions. It does not record design sign-off, a pre-launch test checklist or a handover pack. For a new project, agree who approves the design and which evidence, access and files the client will receive.
Example review checklist
Prepared 11 October 2026, this example lists decisions to record during a design review. It is not client work.
- Does the visual direction fit the brand guidance and the people the site needs to serve?
- Can a visitor find key pages and use the navigation on a mobile screen?
- Do the page layouts make the service, evidence and next step clear?
- Has the main visitor journey been shown in a prototype for review?
- Who approves the design, and where are changes and sign-off recorded?
Record who approves the visual direction, navigation and page layouts, along with any requested changes. The project evidence covers build outputs and deployment. It does not set out an approval sequence, pre-launch checks or handover. Agree those responsibilities and deliverables before development starts.
Plan content and structure before design
List the audiences and the services or products the site needs to cover. For each audience, note what visitors need to know and what evidence could help them decide. Record the next action they can take. Use these notes to plan page structure and navigation.
An engineering supplier might need capability pages, specifications and procurement contacts. A trades business could need service descriptions and an enquiry form. A shop needs its catalogue and stock rules to work with delivery, returns and payment.
Gather copy, product information, photography, brand guidance and technical documents. Decide who approves and maintains them. For a redesign, record current pages and features before changing the structure. This helps scope content, redirects and integrations.
Choose a build that fits the work
Aristral's published web development service describes custom Next.js builds. That gives a project room for custom pages, functionality and integrations, subject to the agreed scope. The service does not list WordPress, Shopify or WooCommerce as standard build options.
Before scoping work on an existing platform, clarify these points:
- Must the current site stay on WordPress or Shopify?
- Which features and integrations need to remain?
- Who will maintain the site?
- For ecommerce, how should the catalogue, checkout, delivery and order handling work?
Aristral can then confirm whether the requested platform and work fit its offer. The proposal should name the platform, included features and any work another supplier must provide.
Accessibility and performance checks
Ask which pages and criteria the project will cover, how findings will be recorded and what evidence you will receive. Naming a standard does not prove a site meets it.
WCAG 2.2 became a W3C Recommendation on 5 October 2023. Its criteria cover keyboard use, focus, forms and interface components. The Equality Act 2010 is relevant to service providers. A statement on a website cannot establish whether a business has met its legal duties. If accessibility checks are included, agree the standard, pages and criteria in writing. The project record can list the pages reviewed, criteria applied and issues found. W3C: WCAG 2.2 · Equality Act 2010
Google's Core Web Vitals measure loading, responsiveness and visual stability. Good thresholds are 2.5 seconds or less for Largest Contentful Paint and 200 milliseconds or less for Interaction to Next Paint. The threshold for Cumulative Layout Shift is 0.1 or less. When field data is available, Google assesses it at the 75th percentile. A pre-launch lab test cannot represent every visitor's experience. If testing is included, ask for dated results and test conditions. web.dev: Web Vitals · Google Search Central: Core Web Vitals
Include search, consent and ownership in the scope
For a redesign, map each existing URL to its replacement and record redirect checks. Review titles, headings, internal links, indexability and structured data before launch. Google requires structured data to match visible page content. Markup does not guarantee a search feature. Keep the URL map and check record with the handover files. Google Search Central: structured data policies
If the site uses analytics or advertising cookies, decide how consent will work before launch. ICO guidance says non-essential cookies require consent and a clear affirmative action. Controls depend on the cookies and services used. Record technical work in scope. The business remains responsible for legal decisions and privacy information. ICO: Cookies and similar technologies
Record who controls the domain, hosting, code and content. Name who provides hosting, manages backups and applies security updates. List editing access, training and handover materials, plus the post-launch support contact. Confirm what access and files you keep if the engagement ends. Agree any support period and maintenance tasks before work starts.
Aristral's Derby web design research {#aristrals-derby-web-design-research}

Frequently asked questions
What does web design in Derby include?
The scope depends on the site's purpose and proposal. It may include planning, content, design, development, checks and handover. Aristral's published build option is custom Next.js. Ask which pages and features are included, who supplies content, what will be tested and what you will receive at launch.
Does Aristral build WordPress websites?
Aristral's published web development service describes custom Next.js builds and does not list WordPress as a standard build offer. If you have a WordPress site, share its address and the changes you need. Also identify plugins, content or integrations that must remain. Aristral can confirm whether the work fits its scope.
Can Aristral build an ecommerce website?
Plan ecommerce around the catalogue, checkout, delivery, stock and integrations. Aristral's public service information does not list Shopify or WooCommerce as standard platforms. Share your requirements and current systems so Aristral can confirm whether the project fits its offer. Ask the proposal to name the platform, included features and any responsibilities for another supplier.
How long does a website project take?
Timing depends on scope, content readiness, integrations, feedback and testing. Aristral does not publish a standard timeline. Ask which milestones depend on your team, such as supplying content or approving designs. Agree dates and client inputs in the proposal before work begins.
Will I be able to edit the website after launch?
That depends on the build and agreed scope. Confirm editing tools, account access, documentation or training, and ownership of the domain, hosting and site files in the proposal. Ask who can make routine changes and what access you keep if the work ends.
Do you test accessibility and Core Web Vitals?
Aristral's service mentions accessibility and performance. It does not publish a standard test checklist or WCAG conformance claim. Set out the pages, criteria, measurement method and evidence in the proposal. Ask whether results will be recorded before launch and who will handle any fixes that are outside the agreed scope.
What should I prepare before asking for a website design quote?
Bring your current website, desired outcome, services or products, deadlines and technical requirements. For ecommerce, include the catalogue, checkout and delivery. For a redesign, note the pages and features to keep. Use the contact link above with the site address and a short description of the work.
